All applicants need to be experienced riders and outspoken individuals. The winner of this pageant will become the spokesperson for the association. Contestants will be judged equally on interview, speech, and horsemanship. The Miss Southern Rough Stock Association pageant will be held Friday and Saturday, November 5-6, 2009 during the SRSA Finals in Harriman, TN at Roane State Community College. SPEECH Each contestant will be required to give a two-minute speech on her involvement in the livestock industry. The contestant with the highest total score in the speech competition will be recognized with a special award. Judging is based on content, delivery, and the time allotted for the presentation. INTERVIEW Each contestant will be interviewed privately by the judges. Questions asked will test the contestants knowledge of the pageant, rodeo, current affairs, and horsemanship. Each contestant may be interviewed on each of the following categories; knowledge of tack, horse care, and feeding, etc. Interviews will last 5-8 minutes. Interviews will be held in a meeting room on the rodeo grounds. APPEARANCE The purpose of this division is to select the young lady who rates highest in: 1. Attractiveness 2. Grooming- to include neatness and cleanliness in every detail, such as complexion, fingernails, hair, hat, boots. 3. Poise and Posture- lady like behavior in every situation. 4. Knowledge of Proper Western Attire- Judges will be observing how a contestant?s clothes fit and suit her properly. It is not necessary to invest in an excessive amount of expensive clothing. Judges will be looking for versatility and imagination displayed by the contestants. PERSONALITY The purpose of this division is to select the young lady who rates highest in: 1. Intelligence- good common sense 2. Education- conversational ability in rodeo and other areas, with special emphasis on grammar and enunciation. 3. Self projection- ability to project one?s personality, also to be considered are sense of humor, showmanship, ambition, desire, and enthusiasm. 4. Genuine interest in other people, in the pageant and in rodeo, and a noticeable consideration for others. HORSEMANSHIP Each contestant will be given 3 minutes to show her horse to the best of her ability. Contestants should focus on her ability to utilize her horse and the arena. The horse in not being judged. Contestants must provide their own horse. Horses available for lease- contact Angela. The contestant receiving the highest grand total will be Miss Southern Rough Stock Association and the second highest score will be Alternate Miss Southern Rough Stock Association. ATTIRE For the horsemanship competition on Friday contestants should wear a western shirt, colored jeans, and a western hat. For the speech and interview on Saturday contestants should wear a western style outfit of choice (western style pant suite, dress, pants or skirt with shirt). Interviews, Speeches, and Horsemanship **Contestants need to be ready for hosemanship at the warm-up arena @ 1:30pm** 8:00 P.M. Rodeo-Ride in Grand Entry - Contestants will be introduced and crowned during rodeo **Schedule subject to change due to # of entries** REQUIREMENTS Between the ages of 16 & 26 (if under 18 a waiver must be signed) Must not be pregnant at the time of the pageant Must not become pregnant during her reign should she win Do not have to be a resident of Tennessee Will be allowed to hold other pageant titles Can compete in other pageants should she win ENTRY FEES Entry fee is $50 AWARDS Awards to horsemanship, speech, and interview winner. Winner will receive crown, banner, belt buckle, a SRSA jacket*. She will also have the opportunity to be hired to carry a flag at a SRSA sanctioned rodeo and do any promotions through the SRSA. She will also need to be available to attend the 2011 SRSA Finals and help with the crowning of the new queen. Alternate Miss Southern Rough Stock Assoc. will receive a banner. Her responsibilities will be to take over the title of Miss Southern Rough Stock Assoc.(SRSA) should the winner be unable to fulfill her obligations (become pregnant, injury etc.).*Awards subject to change according to association* If you are interested in being Miss SRSA return your application by November 1, 2009.
